[Somali] children, when they reach the age at which their dreams begin to be haunted by monsters, are taught by their parents to chase them. When in a dream a child catches a monster, they are taught to demand of the monster a gift. Upon awakening, they must render -- in whatever medium available, be it pigment, stone, wood -- the gift given them by the monster.
