Parting shot for the night: am I the only one who has developed an almost primal loathing of Verizon's advertising ? It's bad enough that their commercials are trite, formulaic, repetitive, uninspired, and insipid, but on top of this they've taken it upon themselves to co-opt the "victory" gesture, which in a single act endows them with a cultural presence which they have done nothing to earn and besmirches the hard-fought value of a tried-and-true, international, and cross-generational icon. Despite the well-documented suckitude of all available alternatives, I would sooner forego a cellular phone than switch to Verizon -- all on the basis of this single smug instance of symboljacking.
